9/11: 25th Anniversary Memorial Exhibit
Twenty-five years on from September 11, 2001, award-winning quilter and teacher Carol Mesimer brings a selection of the works she began making in the days after the attacks. The first of them, Remember Me, hangs beneath hundreds of hand-lettered fabric strips, each one carrying the name of someone lost.

9/11/2001 - Twenty-five years has gone by. It doesn't feel like it's been that long ago. Do you remember where you were when you heard the news? Did you hug your family tighter? Did you go to a place of worship to pray for those lost?
I remember exactly where I was when I heard. While driving my child to a swim lesson, I turned the radio on and heard what had happened and that the towers had fallen. We continued to the lesson, then came home and I started making art out of the chaos. “Remember Me” was the first of many pieces to honor those lives lost. This exhibit showcases a few of those pieces of artwork. We must never forget.

About Carol Mesimer
Carol Mesimer is a teacher and demonstrator for Clover USA. After teaching her first knitting class at 17, she was hooked on teaching. She believes students should have fun in class, while gaining a strong foundation in technique. Teaching and passing along over 60 years of needlework knowledge to students and show attendees are her passion. An award-winning quilter, her quilts have hung in Houston, Chicago, Portland OR, Hartford CT, Williamsburg VA, and at museums in Lowell MA and the Netherlands. When not on the road teaching, Carol stays busy with a wide assortment of needlework projects, and is currently president and show chairman for her local Mineral & Gem Society.

A large-scale composition built from colorful circles, each one handcrafted in crochet using Círculo cotton yarns and brought together into a single installation. The piece gathers the work of Instituto Proeza's artisans and shows, at scale, the diversity of colors, stitches, and creative possibilities of crochet.

Instituto Proeza is a Brazilian social organization founded in 2003 that develops programs focused on professional training, income generation, and the preservation and appreciation of traditional crafts. Among its initiatives is Tecendo o Amanhã (Weaving Tomorrow), a project dedicated to crochet and to creating opportunities for women through handcrafted work.

Men’s Textile Collective Foundation
The Men’s Textile Collective Foundation treats fiber arts as more than a pastime. Its work positions textile craft as a tool for mental health, fine motor development and rehabilitation, and neurodivergent care, and sets out to break the gender stigma that keeps many men away from the needle in the first place.
The collection on display ranges from graphic pieced work to memory quilts built from service uniforms, patches and unit shirts. Founder Brice Porter also takes the Main Stage on Thursday to talk about how the industry might see its end users differently.
